Job summary

Clean Harbors Bartow, FL is seeking a Second Shift Lead Diesel Mechanic to oversee shop operations, supervise maintenance work, and ensure fleet DOT compliance. The role requires extensive diesel engine experience and DOT inspection knowledge, with a emphasis on safety and documentation.

The successful candidate will handle preventive maintenance, inspections, and troubleshooting for a variety of heavy-duty units, including forklifts, trucks, and tractors.

Qualifications

• 5-7 years diesel engine experience.
• 1+ years DOT inspection experience.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Versed in electrical, ECMs, fuel, air systems, ABS, hydraulic systems, engines, etc.
• Proficient in diagnostic, repair, and maintenance of heavy-duty units (forklifts, trucks, tractors, tankers).
• Proficient with tooling and equipment diagnostics, repair, and maintenance.
• Ability to pass background, drug, and physical tests upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Ensuring Health and Safety is the top priority and following safe work practices.
• Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, troubleshoot, diagnose failures and make corrections; handle offsite road repairs/service calls.
• Complete daily operation checklists for units.
• Ensure daily maintenance tasks are performed and communicate issues immediately.
• Complete and submit all paperwork for PM schedules.
• Conduct Safety Checks and Annual Vehicle Inspections per laws.
• Ensure equipment is parked per DOT requirements.
• Ensure work meets Health and Safety SOPs.
• Maintain a clean work environment.
• Perform other assignments as needed by management.
• Adhere to Clean Compliance Standards.

The Lead Diesel Mechanics are responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the shop, which include supervising all maintenance work, assuring company fleet is within DOT compliance, as well as maintaining all service and parts records.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensuring that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and acting in a safe manner at all times;
• Performs preventative maintenance, conducts inspections, troubleshoots, diagnoses failures & deficiencies & performs necessary corrections. This includes conducting offsite road repairs/service calls.
• Completes daily checklist as required for proper operation of the unit being operated.
• Assures unit has daily maintenance duties performed and communicates any problems or issues with the unit immediately upon discovery
• Completes and submits all associated paperwork as required for tracking PM schedules.
• Conducts Safety Checks & Annual Vehicle Inspections in accordance with provincial & federal laws.
• Assures that Equipment is properly parked in compliance with facility permit and DOT requirements.
• Ensures that work meets all applicable Health and Safety Standard Operating Procedures.
• Responsible for maintaining a clean work environment.
• Performs other assignments as assigned by management.
• Understands Clean Compliance Standard.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 5-7 years of diesel engine experience.

• Must be versed in all aspects e.g. electrical, computer, ECMs, fuel, air systems, ABS, hydraulic systems, engines etc.
• Demonstrates complete proficiency in diagnostic, repair, and maintenance of the following units: heavy duty forklift, roll off truck, forklifts, pick up trucks, box trucks, tractors, and tankers.
• Demonstrates complete proficiency in tooling and equipment diagnostic, repair, and maintenance.
• Ability to pass a background, drug, and physical test upon hire.
