Job summary

Elastic seeks a Principal Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Search team. The role focuses on enhancing the vector similarity search functionality, designing and implementing new vector search features, and fixing bugs.

You will work with a globally distributed team, contribute high-quality Java code, and push the boundaries of performance and scalability in a distributed search platform. This is a fully remote, globally distributed opportunity with a strong emphasis on collaboration,

Qualifications

• Proven experience with vector similarity and vector databases at scale.
• Strong Java programming skills and knowledge of Java standard library, concurrency, and lambdas.
• Ability to work autonomously on end-to-end projects, including design and collaboration across teams.
• Experience collaborating over the internet and async communication.
• Familiarity with data storage technologies (Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra).
• Proven track record of using AI to accelerate development and optimize code.

Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives to deliver industry-leading vector database and fast search features.
• Develop and fix Elasticsearch features, possibly designing new algorithms or data structures.
• Collaborate with a globally distributed team on vector search capabilities.
• Be the expert on how vector similarity is implemented to support search relevance.
