Job summary

Grainger is seeking a Lead UX Designer to guide the design of intuitive, user-centered digital experiences for customer- and employee-facing products. You will translate user and business needs into scalable design solutions while collaborating with product, engineering, and research teams.

This hybrid role is onsite in Lake Forest or Chicago 2–3 days per week, with a strong emphasis on user research, design systems, and cross‑functional leadership to influence product strategy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human-Centered Design, HCI, Product Design, or related field.
• 5+ years of UX design experience in Agile product teams.
• 1+ years designing B2B digital products or enterprise apps.
• Strong UX principles including information architecture, usability, and accessibility.
• Experience contributing to design systems and reusable UI patterns.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
• Experience with lean product development or continuous delivery environments.
• Portfolio demonstrating ability to simplify complex problems and balance user, business and technical needs.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Product Managers, Engineers, Data Scientists, and UX Researchers to design intuitive digital experiences.
• Create strategic design artifacts including user journeys and experience frameworks.
• Produce detailed interaction designs including user flows, wireframes, and prototypes.
• Contribute to and evolve the design system with reusable components and patterns.
• Lead multiple design initiatives with minimal direction aligned to product strategy.
• Evaluate experiences using user testing, research insights, and behavioral data.
• Communicate design decisions effectively to cross‑functional teams.
• Mentor and collaborate with UX/UI designers to strengthen design quality.
