Are you a strategic leader with a deep understanding of utility data and a passion for driving cross-industry collaboration? We’re looking for a seasoned expert to lead utility coordination efforts across New York State (NYS), helping shape the future of energy data exchange. In this pivotal role, you'll guide discussions across 8 utilities, manage a team of domain specialists, and make sure data practices not only meet regulatory standards but also push the boundaries of transparency and innovation. With a blend of regulatory insight, technical fluency, and strong leadership, you’ll be at the forefront of transforming how utility data is standardized, validated, and shared—making a real impact on both policy and implementation.

A little about ESource

How you’ll help:

  • Lead utility coordination and engagement across 8 participating utilities in NYS.
    • Facilitate discussions on data requirements, transfer formats, and interoperability across multiple utility providers.
    • Manage a team of subject matter experts specializing in customer, system, environmental justice, and tariff data domains (and potentially others in the future).
    • Oversee communication on data quality issues, ensuring efficient remediation between the ESource data engineering team and utility representatives.
    • Align industry best practices with evolving regulatory requirements.
  • Advise on regulatory data strategy.
    • Provide expert guidance to Department of Public Service members of the IEDR Steering Committee on program issues resulting from Public Service Commission orders that impact or enable IEDR’s mission.
    • Ensure utility data practices follow regulatory frameworks while enhancing transparency on status and positions utilities take on data requests.
  • Support the ESource Data Engineering team.
    • Offer domain expertise to assist with data validation, quality assurance, and optimization of business logic associated with utility datasets.
    • Collaborate on the development and refinement of data dictionaries and transfer protocols, ensuring standardization across participating utilities.
    • Drive the creation and adoption of common data models for seamless utility data exchange and integration.

What will make you a great fit:

  • Solution-oriented leadership.
    • You must be pragmatic—balancing high quality standards with practical approaches to address complex data challenges.
    • You can prioritize impactful issues and drive viable solutions without being hindered by perfectionism.
  • Deep industry expertise.
    • You bring proven experience working with utility data, systems, and infrastructure, and a strong understanding of data transfer standards, governance, and compliance.
    • You’re comfortable engaging with technical experts and business stakeholders alike, bridging the gap between regulatory needs and engineering execution.
  • Strategic and organized approach.
    • You’re skilled in coordinating efforts across multiple utility providers—managing data variability and maturity across an evolving landscape.
    • You’re process-oriented, ensuring efficient workflows, structured methodologies, and continuous improvement in data practices.

What you can expect:

  • Excellent insurance options, including medical, dental, and vision plans; company-paid life insurance; company-paid long- and short-term disability insurance; and medical and dependent-care flexible spending plans.
  • A flexible time off (FTO) program where you can take as many paid days off per year as you need, with manager approval, while fulfilling your work obligations and ensuring proper coverage of your responsibilities.
  • Flexible schedules, flexible work locations, and a paid parental leave benefit.
  • A 401(k)/RRSP plan with a 3% employer match.

The budgeted salary for this position is:

  • $150,000–$180,000 USD + annual bonus.

Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.

This role will be 100% remote, with infrequent travel (generally 1–2 times per year).
