Director of Data

Are you a data leader passionate about building from the ground up? Do you thrive at the intersection of data, engineering, and operations? A fast-scaling, highly vertically integrated consumer product company is seeking a Director of Data to own and transform their data function as they enter their next phase of growth.

What You’ll Do:

• Own and define the end-to-end data strategy for the business, including backend infrastructure, analytics, and data science.
• Build and scale a cross-functional team (engineering, analytics, data science) from an initial 1–2 ICs to 6–8+ over time.
• Architect and implement core infrastructure to support business intelligence, predictive modeling, and marketing attribution.
• Stand up a modern data stack: replatform databases, build data pipelines, expand dbt layers, and drive modeling with BI tools like Omni.
• Partner closely with teams across manufacturing and marketing to create data events and instrumentation across the full data lifecycle — from the factory floor to the customer journey.
• Lead efforts on predictive demand modeling to better inform manufacturing planning and customer experience.
• Help implement a new ERP system and redefine how the company captures and uses operational data.
• Serve as a strategic partner to senior leadership by delivering actionable insights via executive dashboards and analytics initiatives.

What We’re Looking For:

• Proven experience owning the data function in a scaled, D2C, product-based company — ideally with direct involvement in manufacturing operations.
• Technical depth in backend data engineering and infrastructure with a strong foundation in data science and analytics.
• Track record of building teams and leading high-impact initiatives across multiple business functions.
• Experience working with vertically integrated operations and familiarity with marketing KPIs and attribution models.
• Ability to zoom out for strategy while also staying hands-on with tools and architecture.
• Curious, autonomous, and scrappy — someone who figures things out using AI tools, podcasts, open-source tools, and their network.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to drive decision-making in a fast-moving, customer-centric environment.
• The role is remote-first, but candidates should be open to frequent travel to Indiana, particularly in the first 4–6 months (think every 2–3 weeks) to deeply understand the systems, teams, and manufacturing processes.
• After onboarding, travel will taper to every 6–8 weeks.

Bonus If You Have:

• Experience with ERP integrations
• Experience at vertically integrated D2C companies
• Multi-brand or international experience
• Hands-on work building predictive models on operational data (e.g. demand forecasting, churn, supply chain bottlenecks)
