Job summary

Qualifications

• Alaska licensure or eligibility to practice law in Alaska.
• Six+ years of relevant experience in law.
• Detail-oriented with strong research, writing, and verbal skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills.
• Ability to manage a diverse workload and meet deadlines.
• General counsel experience or equivalent.
• Commitment to Tribal sovereignty and self-determination.
• Experience with Tribes and Tribal organizations.
• Federal Indian law experience.
• Private practice experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal advice to Tribal clients on personnel, healthcare, governance, economics, funding compliance, environmental, and jurisdiction issues.
• Draft Tribal constitutions, Tribal codes, corporate docs, and policies.
• Draft and negotiate professional services agreements, intergovernmental agreements, leases, RFPs, and SD Act contracts.
• Litigate in federal, state, and tribal courts and agencies nationwide.
• Build and maintain relationships with Tribal clients.
• Supervise and mentor associates and staff.
• Support a positive workplace culture.
