Job summary

COOK INLET TRIBAL COUNCIL, INC. seeks a Staff Attorney and a Sr. Staff Attorney in the Alaska Native Justice Center to provide high-quality legal services to Alaska Native communities, focusing on ICWA child welfare and tribal justice matters.

The Senior role includes mentoring staff and handling the most complex cases with minimal supervision. Must hold a JD, be admitted to the Alaska Bar, and be willing to travel as needed; background checks are required.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor or equivalent degree from an accredited law school.
• Active membership in the Alaska Bar Association in good standing.
• Ability to travel to rural and urban areas as required.
• Clear state and federal fingerprint-based background check.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive legal services to ANJC clients and Tribes.
• Represent Alaska Tribes in child welfare matters (ICWA) and related matters.
• Mentor junior attorneys and supervise complex cases at senior level.
• Prepare legal documents, resolutions, and grant-related reports.
• Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and tribal facilitators.
