Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson is seeking a Transportation Technician III to serve as a lead inspector on transportation construction projects. You will oversee field operations, verify conformance to plans and specifications, and supervise junior inspectors on road and bridge work.

This role requires strong communication, a valid driver's license, and experience interpreting highway plans. Statewide projects may be available with field responsibilities across multiple sites, often requiring

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or related field, plus five years of progressive technician experience.
• Active driver’s license.
• Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans.
• Thorough understanding of DOT Standards and Roadway Standard Drawings.
• NCDOT certifications including Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, and Conventional Density Testing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspection of contractor’s operations on transportation projects to verify conformance to plans and specifications.
• Supervise and maintain subordinate inspection staff throughout construction of the project.
• Measure and track quantities of pay items.
• Gather and maintain record documents including material certifications, testing reports, and inspector’s daily diaries.
• Interact with the public, government agencies, contractors, subcontractors, and other parties to respond to inquiries and resolve field issues.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
