Job summary

The City of Fayetteville is seeking a Traffic Signal Maintenance Supervisor to oversee, coordinate, and participate in the maintenance of traffic signals, including studies and timing implementations, within the Traffic Services Division.

The role requires supervising staff, coordinating with external agencies like NCDOT, and ensuring quality, safety, and timely delivery of projects while serving the public and council inquiries.

Qualifications

• Five years of increasingly responsible experience in traffic signal maintenance or related field.
• Equivalent to an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in electronic engineering, computer programming, or a related field.
• IMSA Traffic Signal Level II certification; Class B Commercial Driver’s License.
• IMSA Traffic Signal Level III certification; Class A CDL with no restrictions.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prioritize, assign, and review signal maintenance staff; set goals and practices.
• Participate in selection and evaluation of lower level staff; provide training; address deficiencies; apply discipline.
• Coordinate, implement, and inspect construction of traffic signals.
• Investigate and respond to citizen and city council's requests for transportation improvements; investigate complaints and provide information.
• Participate in travel for inspections and analysis of traffic control devices.
• Manage daily operations, maintenance and repair of the traffic signal maintenance section; establish work priorities; generate work orders; coordinate with internal departments and external agencies.
• Establish and maintain equipment and materials inventory; requisition and purchase parts to support operations.
• Assist in maintaining traffic signal system and timing implementations.
• Design new traffic signal layouts; review designs and perform timing studies.
• Coordinate traffic investigations, studies, control, accidents, and street closures.
• Coordinate traffic signal technician staff to isolate malfunctions and coordinate meetings with utilities, NCDOT, contractors, and others.
• Participate in employee selection; training; evaluate performance; discipline procedures.
