Job summary

City of Gulfport is seeking an advanced Signing and Marking Technician to lead a crew in installing and maintaining traffic control devices. The role requires supervising staff, training on equipment, and ensuring compliance with MUTCD standards.

Responsibilities include directing sign fabrication, markings, and vehicle equipment use, plus responding to emergencies and maintaining records. MS CDL and IMSA/Flagman certifications are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Min. 3 years upper-level traffic maintenance and repair, incl. street painting and sign installation.
• Must have supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Leads, plans and reviews the work of staff on traffic control devices.
• Directs and participates in Signing and Marking crew activities.
• Operates airless spray, striping equipment and hot plastic tools.
• Trains staff in installation and maintenance of traffic devices.
• Verifies work meets standards and safety rules.
• Ensures proper barricading near traffic to protect staff and public.
• Performs curb, crosswalk, median marking; applies epoxy/thermoplastic/reflective materials.
• Reviews contracted work and adjusts on-site for traffic flow.
• Keeps daily progress records and forwards information to supervisor.
• Fabricates, repairs, installs signs and related public signs.
• Cleans equipment and performs maintenance; responds to emergencies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
