Job summary

The City of Vallejo is seeking an advanced level Traffic Engineer to oversee major traffic projects, lead city-wide planning efforts, and supervise professional staff. Candidates should possess registration as a Traffic Engineer in California (preferred) or be a Civil Engineer with traffic experience and relevant coursework.

Knowledge of MUTCD standards, CEQA/NEPA processes, and strong analytical skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Five years of traffic or transportation engineering experience.
• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in traffic or transportation engineering.
• Registration as a Professional Traffic Engineer in California (preferred); or as a Professional Civil Engineer with traffic engineering experience (requires substantive coursework).

Responsibilities

• Lead, coordinate, implement, and participate in comprehensive City-wide traffic planning, safety and control programs.
• Analyze transportation issues and prepare studies including LOS, VMT, and signal coordination.
• Design, modify traffic control systems and prepare plans, specs and estimates for signals and signage.
• Review development plans for traffic impact and CEQA/NEPA documentation.
• Provide staff support to boards/commissions and coordinate with consultants.
