Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal Tooling Design Engineer in Sunnyvale, CA, responsible for concept generation, detailed 3D CAD design, fabrication drawings, and production support for tooling used in naval systems. Candidates must demonstrate strong GD&T skills and experience with NX or similar CAD tools.

The role requires collaboration with engineering, manufacturing and program management, with a focus on quality, safety, and schedule. U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in STEM with 5+ years of design for manufacturing (DFM) experience; master's in STEM with 3+ years is acceptable.
• Experience in 3D CAD modeling and 2D drafting from 3D models.
• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Strong communication and leadership to work with cross‑functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Concept generation and detailed 3D CAD design for tooling; fabrication drawings and production support.
• Serve as a technical liaison between engineering, manufacturing and project management.
• Perform first‑article and in‑process inspections to verify design conformance.
• Ensure documentation and revisions are properly controlled and communicated.
