Our client is a specialized testing and commissioning company for utility substations ranging from medium to high voltage. Operating primarily in the Northeast, this organization is driven by a commitment to quality and excellence.
We are seeking skilled and motivated professionals with experience in utility testing and commissioning to join our growing team. If you have experience working with major utilities, your expertise will be highly valued, and we are committed to providing competitive compensation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement detailed testing and commissioning plans, including sequencing, outage and energization coordination, and construction scheduling.
- Review technical diagrams and drawings thoroughly before project initiation, conducting pre-job walk-throughs, and identifying required adjustments.
- Lead the bidding, inspection, and troubleshooting processes for both simple and complex electrical projects involving apparatus and protection systems.
- Perform hands-on testing and commissioning at utility sites, mentoring team members and ensuring safety, timely delivery, and budget adherence.
- Maintain strict compliance with safety standards, utility requirements, and industry regulations such as OSHA, NFPA, and NETA.
- Execute start-up, commissioning, and troubleshooting for power delivery systems, including transformers, switchgear, relays, SCADA, and metering systems.
- Conduct acceptance testing and logic verification for protection relays, transformers, and associated systems.
- Interpret and troubleshoot electrical schematics and ensure design intent is achieved during commissioning processes.
- Support project teams by managing documentation, tracking progress, and addressing discrepancies or change orders as necessary.
- Promote a culture of safety and accountability on all job sites.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED, with additional qualifications such as an associate's or bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, completion of a 3-5 year electrician apprenticeship, or military experience in electrical systems preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years in field service, testing, or commissioning of electrical apparatus and relay systems.
- Familiarity with testing equipment such as Doble, Megger, Vanguard, or Arbiter is essential.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are required.
- Knowledge of NETA testing specifications is a plus, but not mandatory.
- In-depth understanding of power distribution, circuit theory, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Ability to interpret technical blueprints and schematics effectively.
- Working knowledge of industry standards such as ANSI/NETA, IEEE, NEC, and NFPA.
- Valid U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required for site access.
- Willingness to travel to client sites and work in various environmental conditions.
