Job summary

Southern Staffing Group seeks a Lead Test Engineer for positions servicing the AEP system pathway across TX, LA, OK with a focus on electrical utility testing and commissioning. You will oversee relay protection testing, CT/PT verification, and client-facing project execution plans.

Responsibilities

  • Independently test relay protection elements.
  • Verify CT and PT ratios, phasing, polarity, and single-point grounds.
  • Perform fundamental control circuitry tests independently.
  • Confirm station phasing and equipment orientation.
  • Review project drawings including one-line, three-line, schematic, and wiring diagrams.
  • Develop client relay test routines using Protection Suite, Test Universe, RTS and other tools.
  • Create protection isolation plans using human performance procedures and tools.
  • Develop client-specific commissioning plans and procedures.

Lead Test Engineer

$70-$85/hr

Our client, a leading engineering services company specializing in testing and commissioning for the electric utility industry, is seeking an experienced Lead Test Engineer to join their team in servicing their utility client throughout TX, LA, OK supporting the AEP system. This organization is known for delivering exceptional results while prioritizing client satisfaction, safety, and industry standards.

As a Lead Test Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in managing projects, mentoring team members, and driving the successful delivery of services that align with the company's high standards and commitment to excellence. Key Responsibilities
Leadership Competencies
  • Lead project teams effectively.

  • Assist in creating training plans for direct reports.

  • Develop and manage project execution plans.

  • Possess extensive knowledge of substation protection applications.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to identify and resolve design errors or gaps, ensuring proper corrections are implemented.
  • Ensure stations operate correctly and meet client specifications, standards, and industry requirements.
Key Assignments for Project Personnel

  • Develop and execute client relay test routines using Protection Suite, Test Universe, RTS, and other tools.
  • Create protection isolation plans using human performance procedures and tools.
  • Develop client-specific commissioning plans and procedures.
