Job summary

Instrata is seeking a Lead Technician to oversee installation activities for cabling and fiber optics, including termination, testing, labeling, and documentation. You will oversee technicians, enforce safety policies, and ensure work aligns with contract scope while maintaining quality and on-time delivery.

The role requires 2–5 years of telecom cabling experience, strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.
  • 2–5 years of cabling & telecom install experience.
  • Knowledge of ANSI/TIA/EIA cabling standards & NEC.

Responsibilities

  • Train and oversee technicians on installation, safety, and procedures to meet the scope of work safely and on time.
  • Enforce environmental, health, and safety policies.
  • Provide feedback and development guidance to field team members.
  • Utilize project management tools to track schedule, dependencies, and budget.
  • Communicate with clients, management, and colleagues.
  • Assess impact of scope changes in real time and escalate as needed.
  • Provide status reports to internal/external contacts.
  • Support for client contacts and technicians as needed.
  • Meet with clients to gauge satisfaction and opportunities for improvement.

Job description

Job Summary:

Oversees Installation and Installs: various cables that include but are not limited to: twisted pair cable, coax, power limited tray cable, stranded cable, solid conductor low voltage cable, CAT-6, CAT-5, single mode fiber optical cable & multi-mode fiber optical cable. Cable installation includes placement, termination, testing, labeling & documentation.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Train, direct, and oversee technicians on installation, safety, and maintenance methods/procedures, as required to perform all activities defined in the SoW safely, with quality, on time, and efficiently. Identify and escalation any new or high-risk activities as needed to get additional support.
  • Understand, apply, and enforce Premiere/customer-provided environmental, health & safety policies.
  • In conjunction with other Lead Technicians, provide regular feedback and development recommendations on members of the field team.
  • Effectively utilize tools provided by Premiere to include but are not limited to: Order Package - (Standard contents), SSP (Emphasis on SoW, Schedule, Dependencies, and budget), SNAPSHOT, Network Diagram, QA checklist/Punch List, Closing package – (Standard contents), Guidelines
  • Communicate effectively with clients, management, and coworkers.
  • Recognize and assess the impact of site/scope changes on a real-time basis. Escalate issues that will significantly impact the scope, resources, and schedule
  • Provide timely status reports to internal/external contacts as required.
  • Apply the RFC/FCO process as needed for scope changes.
  • Provide support for client contacts & technicians as needed.
  • Meet with clients to determine satisfaction and areas of improvement.
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must have the ability to install, terminate & test low voltage cables & fiber optical cables (to include twisted pair cable, coax, power limited tray cable, stranded & solid conductor low voltage cable, single mode & multi-mode fiber optical cables).
  • Ability to follow written & verbal instructions.
  • Must have a strong mechanical aptitude
  • Must be able to use small hand tools and power tools.
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.
  • Must have 2 to 5 years of experience in the installation of cabling & electronic devices associated with Telecom Systems, TCP/IP Networks, CCTV Security, Access control & Wireless Solutions.
  • Strong working knowledge of ANSI/TIA/EIA cabling standards & National Electric Code.
Physical Requirements:
  • Heavy physical effort (usually lifting/moving up to 100 pounds).
  • Climbing of stairs, ladders, and/or scaffolds with and without loads.
  • Ability to work from heights such as man lifts, scissor lifts & rooftops, utilizing proper fall protection.
