Job description

About The Role

Are you an experienced low‑voltage professional ready to take the lead in the field? We’re looking for a driven, detail‑oriented Lead Technician to oversee installations, guide technicians, and ensure project excellence across voice, data, fiber, and structured cabling systems. In this role, you’ll be responsible for both hands‑on work and onsite leadership—installing and testing cables, training field teams, enforcing safety protocols, and communicating with clients. Whether you're troubleshooting on a rooftop or coaching a new tech, you’ll bring precision, accountability, and confidence to every job site.

What You’ll Do – Lead the Team. Deliver with Excellence.
  • Own the Installation: Install, terminate, label, and test all types of structured cable—twisted pair, coax, CAT-5/6, tray cable, and fiber (single‑mode and multi‑mode).
  • Train and Mentor: Coach technicians on safety practices, quality standards, and installation methods. Ensure all work aligns with the Scope of Work (SoW), on time and efficiently.
  • Drive Safety & Compliance: Apply and enforce safety policies (Instrata/customer standards) and elevate high‑risk activities.
  • Use the Tools: Confidently manage Instrata deliverables including: Order Package, Scope of Work (SoW), Schedule, Budget, and Dependencies, SNAPSHOT and Network Diagrams, QA checklists, Punch Lists, and Closing Documentation.
  • Collaborate and Communicate: Maintain clear communication with clients, internal teams, and other Lead Techs. Share updates, concerns, and improvement opportunities.
  • Adapt in the Field: Identify and assess changes to scope, schedule, or resources in real time—and escalates when necessary.
  • Support RFC/FCO Processes: Assist with scope changes using formal request processes as needed.
  • Customer Satisfaction: Engage with clients to ensure expectations are met and identify opportunities to improve service and delivery.
  • Support Field Performance: Provide feedback on field team development and work alongside project leaders to optimize execution.
What You Bring
  • 2–5 years of hands‑on experience installing telecom cabling, TCP/IP networks, CCTV, wireless, and access control systems.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort with power tools and hand tools.
  • Solid understanding of ANSI/TIA/EIA cabling standards and National Electrical Code.
  • Ability to install, terminate, and test low‑voltage and fiber optic cables.
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with installation planning tools and client‑facing reporting.
  • Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
Education & Certifications
  • High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent experience).
  • Additional industry certifications a plus (BICSI, OSHA, manufacturer‑specific, etc.).
What’s in It for You?
  • Leadership Opportunity: Step into a trusted leadership role that makes a visible impact on project success.
  • Career Advancement: Grow your career in telecom and low‑voltage systems with opportunities to move into project management or senior technical roles.
  • Client Impact: Be a trusted expert on‑site and help deliver best‑in‑class results.
  • Training & Support: Access to tools, processes, and mentorship to help you lead with confidence.
  • Competitive Pay: Fair wages, consistent hours, and a role that rewards your experience and leadership.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This is a hands‑on, physical role requiring regular lifting/moving of up to 100 lbs. You’ll work on active job sites, including rooftops, man lifts, scissor lifts, and confined spaces, with appropriate fall protection and safety gear. Climbing ladders, bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods are typical. Reasonable accommodations are available for individuals with disabilities.
