Job summary

Instrata is seeking an experienced Cable Installer to install twisted pair, coax, fiber, CAT-6/5 and other low voltage cables. You will complete placement, termination, testing, labeling and documentation of cabling systems.

Responsibilities include installing cable pathways, dressing cables into telecom closets, building equipment rooms, fire-stopping penetrations and recording test results. Must meet ANSI/TIA/EIA and NEC standards with physical ability for heavy lifting.

Qualifications

  • Must install, terminate & test low voltage cables & fiber optic cables.
  • Ability to follow written & verbal instructions.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to use small and power tools.

  • Install cable pathway systems (cable trays, cable racks, J-hooks or D-rings).
  • Install, terminate, test, label & document horizontal, backbone & other cables.
  • Dress & route cable into telecom closets, modular furniture & other work area outlets.
  • Build out telecom & equipment rooms.
  • Fire-stop various types of cable penetrations.
  • Test, troubleshoot, & document test results for cabling.
  • Adhere to ANSI/TIA/EIA cabling standards & NEC.
  • Follow Environmental, Health & Safety policies.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Install cable pathway systems (cable trays, cable racks, J-hooks or D-rings).

  • Possess working knowledge of ANSI/TIA/EIA cabling standards & National Electric Code.
  • Understands, adheres to, & promotes Environmental, Health & Safety policies.
  • Report any project scope changes, issues, or concerns to assigned contacts.
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have the ability to install, terminate & test low voltage cables & fiber optical cables (to include twisted pair cable, coax, power limited tray cable, stranded & solid conductor low voltage cable, single mode & multi-mode fiber optical cables).
  • Ability to follow written & verbal instructions.
  • Must have a strong mechanical aptitude
  • Must be able to use small hand tools and power tools.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.
  • Must have 2 to 5 years of experience in the installation of cabling & electronic devices associated with Telecom Systems, TCP/IP Networks, CCTV Security, Access control & Wireless Solutions.
  • Strong working knowledge of ANSI/TIA/EIA cabling standards & National Electric Code.
Physical Requirements
  • Heavy physical effort (usually lifting/moving up to 100 pounds).
  • Climbing of stairs, ladders, and/or scaffolds with and without loads.
  • Ability to work from heights such as man lifts, scissor lifts & rooftops, utilizing proper fall protection.
