Lead Technician
Job Overview
Pace Transportation is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Lead Technician to join our team at our new Gary, IN facility. As a Lead Technician, you will be responsible for coaching and guiding junior Technicians, overseeing their day-to-day operations, and ensuring deadlines are met and service orders are repaired accurately and in a timely manner.
Responsibilities
- The Lead Technician reports directly to the Shop Supervisor or Manager
- The Lead Technician coaches and guides Technicians (levels 1, 2 and 3), but does not have any supervisory responsibility.
- Oversees the DOT annual inspection of equipment and ensures any repairs recommended are completed.
- Performs monthly check of shop equipment and tools to ensure they are working properly.
- Reports any issues requiring repair or replacement to the Shop Supervisor.
- Maintains tool inventory to ensure there is a proper supply for team members to utilize.
- Checks and records all equipment in the yard daily and shares the list with team members.
- Obtains status updates on all company trucks to determine which trucks have delivered their load and which are on the road (along with their location).
- Performs building maintenance as needed, such as fixing doors, touching up paint, checking storage tank levels, removing snow, performing yard work and cleaning the facility.
- Oversees, prioritizes, and initiates work to keep Mechanics busy and ensures deadlines are being met.
- Analyzes paperwork at month end to ensure it is completed correctly.
- Answers questions from Technicians and Drivers as they arise.
- Examines trash dumpsters, waste oil bins and trucks on a weekly basis to ensure each is ready for the coming week.
- Identifies ways to create efficiencies with shop operations to save the organization money.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Technician, Upfitter, Fabricator, Welder, or a related Mechanical Trade preferred.
- 1+ years of experience in a level 3 Tech positions preferred.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools, welding experience is a plus.
- Ability to read and understand technical diagrams, schematics, and instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Basic electrical and hydraulic system knowledge is a plus.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various positions, including standing, bending, and kneeling.
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift/carry 30lbs frequently.
- Must be able to lift/carry 50lbs occasionally.
- Must be able to lift/carry 100lbs during team lifts infrequently.
