Job summary

Lighthouse Care Center of Augusta is seeking a Lead Mental Health Technician to join the Lighthouse Milieu Management Team in Augusta, GA. The role focuses on integrating a patient-centered therapeutic strategy and ensuring 24-hour milieu management with Nursing Management oversight.

Ideal candidates will have a background in psychiatric patient care, at least one year of related experience, and relevant certifications.

Qualifications

• One year of related experience with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques and understanding of mental illness.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe, structured and therapeutic environment for all residents and staff.
• Ensure milieu staff follow programming, services, activities, behavioral plans, and protocols on each unit.
• Collaborate with leadership to measure and report program outcomes and maintain policies.
• Model therapeutic redirection and appropriate limits of resident behavior, including time outs, seclusions, and restraints as needed.
• Coordinate with HRD, DON and Nurse Management to supervise MHT staff and address performance.

The Lead Mental Health Technician is a key member of the Lighthouse Milieu Management Team who will integrate and coordinate a patient‑centric therapeutic strategy with a keen focus on patient care; ensuring that delivery of high‑quality and cost‑effective health care is consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Universal Health Services and in accordance with government regulation, licensing and accreditation requirements. The Lead Mental Health Technician works with Nursing Management to ensure 24‑hour management of the therapeutic milieu for each unit and supervision oversight of the Mental Health Technicians (MHTs).

Job Duties / Responsibilities

• Vital role in providing all residents and staff with a safe, structured and therapeutic environment.
• Ensure that all milieu staff are following the programming, services, activities, behavioral plans, any special protocols, program schedules on each unit, and systems of communication in all programs that promote consistency with agency training and program philosophy.
• Work directly with leadership to measure and report program outcomes and maintain program policies and procedures.
• Model appropriate and therapeutic redirection and limits of resident behavior, time outs, seclusions/restraints for all staff.
• Work with HRD, DON and Nurse Management to hold MHT staff accountable for their work, provide supervision and disciplinary counseling as needed through the Nursing Department.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Degree or equivalent required. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification preferred.
• Experience: One year of related experience with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques and understanding of mental illness. At least one year of experience training and developing staff members in psychiatric patient care techniques or performing similar duties.
• Additional Requirements: Successful completion of approved Basic Life Support and approved Behavioral Management training; completion of course and certification as a Handle With Care / Verbal De‑Escalation Instructor.
