Job summary

Northwest Texas Healthcare System, a Northwest Texas Medical Center, seeks a Lead Tech - Medical (ASCP) to supervise laboratory functions and ensure adherence to CAP, CLIA, and hospital policies. You will coordinate shifts, training, and budgeting while maintaining quality controls and proficiency testing.

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in a related science, ASCP or NCA certification, and at least five years of clinical lab experience, with strong leadership and analytical skills

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, microbiology, biology, chemistry, or related science.
  • Five (5) years of clinical laboratory experience.
  • ASCP or NCA certification required.
  • Must meet CLIA '88 personnel requirements.
  • Mathematical, computer, reasoning and language skills at undergrad/grad level.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervisory and technical expertise according to CAP, CLIA, JCAHO, AABB standards.
  • Participate in maintenance and safety programs.
  • Measure, assess, and improve performance in the area of responsibility.
  • Lead/depart coordination to meet department and organization goals.

Position: LEAD TECH - MEDICAL (ASCP) - LABORATORY
Position summary

Responsible for the effective coordination and supervision of all the functions in the assigned laboratory section or on the assigned shift. This includes scheduling, training, budgeting that promotes cost containment, and the recognition of analytical results or problems that require referral to the Medical Director and Director. Responsible for the maintenance of policies and procedures, quality control monitoring and practices, proficiency testing, and integration of the assigned section or shift into the overall functioning of the Department and Northwest Texas Healthcare System. Over-site and supervision of section/shift activities will be in accordance with established Hospital, Department, and regulatory policies and procedures. The Lead Tech - Medical (ASCP) supports an organizational culture for Service Excellence and practices the Service Excellence standards to all customer groups. This position summary contains the most relevant duties and responsibilities and does not exclude other assignments not mentioned.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Readily assumes the essential functions (i.e., tasks, duties, and responsibilities) that are critical and/or fundamental to the successful performance of the job. Provides supervisory and technical expertise in the area of assigned responsibility according to accepted laboratory standards of practice as outlined by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), CLIA’88, Joint commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), and American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), and other regulatory agencies, as appropriate, and procedures of the Hospital, department, and/or department’s Medical Director. Participates in maintenance and safety programs. Participates in and supports a process to measure, assess, and improve performance in the area of assigned responsibility. Exhibits effective leadership skills in planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating departmental functions in relation to the UHS and the NWTHS mission, vision, strategic goals, and values and in accordance with JCAHO’s leadership standards. Operates the section or shift of responsibility in such a way as to meet the fiscal goals of the organization. Investigates and submits for implementation value-added programs and services. Manages the satisfaction of Department customers to include patient’s employees and physicians through effective communication and appropriate responsiveness to customer issues.

Qualifications
Education, Training, Experience and Licenses/Registrations Required

1. Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree with a major in medical technology, microbiology, biology, chemistry, or related science.

2. Minimum Work Experience: Five (5) years of clinical laboratory experience

3. Certifications: American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or National Certification Agency (NCA) required.

4. Other: Must meet the personnel requirements as outlined by CLIA ‘88.

5. Mathematical, computer, reasoning and language skills at the undergraduate or graduate level required.
