Job summary

Brooklyn Community Services seeks a Lead Teacher for Afterschool at PS 21 (Crispus Attucks High School). The position runs Monday through Friday, 2:15 pm–6:00 pm during the school year, with holiday camp hours from 8:00 am–6:00 pm on 13 days when DOE is closed.

Responsibilities include delivering multi-sensory, project-based lessons to a class of 20–30 students, submitting plans for approval, planning field trips, and collaborating with the program director and staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education required; degree in Education preferred.
• Experience working with children and youth; enjoy working with kids.
• Flexible to cover across all afterschool programs when needed.
• Computer savvy with applications, video conferencing and email responsiveness.
• Current or former licensed teacher is a plus.
• Background in arts or sports coaching is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Implement hands-on multi-sensory and project-based lessons and activities for 20–30 students daily.
• Submit lesson plans to the program site director and Education Specialist for approval.
• Plan field trips related to the thematic curriculum and supervise students during trips.
• Participate in curriculum and professional development trainings as required.
• Use creative teaching strategies to enhance literacy, social-emotional learning, arts and STEM.
• Develop and plan culminating event presentations with staff to showcase learning.
• Engage and communicate with parents as required by the site director.
• Provide supervision to 20 students during activities and transitions.
• Monitor authorized parent/guardian pick up of children.
• Direct and work with the assistant teacher.
• Participate in agency-wide groups and meetings as required.
• Assist with development of funding proposals as needed.
• Other tasks as may be required.

• Work with the program site director and other staff to develop and plan culminating event presentations that will showcase learning and creativity.
• Engage and communicate with parents and families as required by the site director.
• Provided effective supervision to 20 students during classroom activities and transitions.
• Monitor authorized parent / guardian pick up of children.
• Direct and work with assistant teacher.
