Job summary

The Lead Teacher provides opportunities to promote learning in social/emotional, motor, cognitive, and creative development to help each child reach their full potential. The Lead Teacher is responsible for managing the classroom, working closely with children to respond to their individual needs, and creating and implementing lesson plans, assessments, activities, and field trips. The Four Directions Family Center offers full-day therapeutic education and care for children aged 6 weeks to 11 years, emphasizing the revitalization of Dakota and Ojibway languages through partnership with Wicoie Nandagikendan for language immersion and culturally responsive early childhood education.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Create a safe, stimulating, healthy, and nurturing environment for children
  • Teach age-appropriate group and individual activities
  • Develop and implement weekly lesson plans and learning opportunities
  • Use Teaching Strategies curriculum in the classroom
  • Complete child assessments and set individual goals three times a year, involving parents and therapists
  • Supervise children during activities and field trips, ensuring constant supervision
  • Maintain accurate records and daily notes on each child
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and make referrals as needed
  • Ensure cleanliness and safety of the environment, complying with DHS and CACFP requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current Child Development Associate (CDA) Certification or equivalent college credits in Child Development (24 credits)
  • At least six months of experience in a childcare setting
  • Knowledge of child development from six weeks to eleven years
  • Knowledge of health and safety protocols, sanitation, and emergency response
  • Skills in managing children's behavior and effective communication with diverse populations
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and meet physical demands of caring for young children
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general office equipment
  • Valid MN Driver's License, reliable transportation, and ability to meet driving record requirements
  • Must be vaccinated against COVID-19 or have a reasonable accommodation as required by law
