Job summary

Black Eagle Defense seeks a Lead Systems Engineer to drive stability and scalability of data workflows and a web-based UI. You will lead a DevOps/SysAdmin team across hybrid infra (bare-metal, EC2) and Kubernetes, collaborating with software teams on architecture and automation using Ansible, Terraform, and Podman.

You will mentor staff on testing, deployment strategies, and modern automation, ensuring security and performance across all environments.

Qualifications

12 years of experience as a systems engineer in similar scope and complexity.
Bachelor's degree in a related discipline required; additional SE experience may substitute for degree.
Strong Linux system administration experience (RHEL9) and automation.
Proficient in Ansible (Semaphore), Terraform, Packer, Bash, and Python.
Knowledge of SSP compliance and processes.
Experience with containerization (Podman) and Kubernetes.
AWS experience: EC2, S3, VPC, IAM; observability with Kibana, Grafana, Prometheus.
Database exposure: Elasticsearch, MongoDB, Redis; graph DBs.
CI/CD in GitLab; AWS tools like EKS/ECS/Lambda/Secrets Manager.

Responsibilities

Lead and mentor a DevOps/SysAdmin team with daily task management.
Oversee end-to-end infrastructure across hybrid environments (bare-metal, EC2, AWS).
Collaborate with software teams to architect robust systems and ensure uptime.
Establish observability, automated monitoring, backups, and DR planning.
Ensure security through SSP accreditation and routine maintenance.
