Liberty Personnel Services, Inc. is seeking a Lead Systems Engineer to oversee plant integration for gas turbine power projects serving data centers and industrial facilities.
You will coordinate interfaces across gas turbines, generators, emissions systems, and balance-of-plant equipment to ensure an integrated system. The role requires 7+ years in power plant systems, ABET-accredited degree, and strong leadership for cross-disciplinary teams, with travel up to 30%.
An established power generation organization is seeking a Lead Systems Engineer to lead plant integration activities for gas turbine power generation projects serving data centers and industrial facilities.
This role is responsible for establishing and maintaining the plant design basis, coordinating interfaces between gas turbines, generators, emissions systems, and balance-of-plant equipment, and ensuring that mechanical, electrical, and controls designs work together as an integrated power generation system.
The ideal candidate has strong power plant systems or process engineering experience, understands gas turbine plant operations, and can coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams from initial design through installation and commissioning.
Develop and maintain the plant and site design basis, including ambient conditions, fuel gas and water supply requirements, auxiliary loads, and operating modes such as simple-cycle, behind-the-meter, and islanded operation.
Lead the definition and coordination of interfaces among gas turbine packages, generators, emissions control systems, fuel gas systems, cooling systems, water or steam injection, and balance-of-plant equipment.
Develop and maintain interface control documents, system descriptions, and related engineering documentation.
Prepare and review process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and mass and energy balances.
Establish fuel gas requirements, including pressure, temperature, composition, and conditioning, and coordinate emissions performance requirements for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and carbon monoxide (CO) systems.
Prepare auxiliary load lists, estimate net plant output, and support heat balance calculations and plant performance modeling.
Review mechanical, electrical, and controls engineering deliverables for consistency with the overall design basis.
Identify, track, and resolve technical conflicts and interface issues across engineering disciplines.
Develop plant operating philosophies and coordinate with controls engineers on control narratives, startup and shutdown sequences, and operating requirements.
Provide input on site layouts and overall plant arrangements.
Coordinate with engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors, engineering consultants, equipment vendors, and internal project teams.
Provide technical leadership during design reviews and support resolution of complex plant integration challenges.
Establish consistent systems engineering standards, documentation practices, and design review processes across projects.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
7+ years of power plant systems or process engineering experience with an owner, EPC contractor, OEM, utility, or independent power producer (IPP).
Working knowledge of gas turbine plant systems, including fuel gas, lubrication, cooling, water or steam injection, and emissions control.
Experience preparing and reviewing P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and mass and energy balances.
Familiarity with heat balance software and power plant performance concepts.
Ability to establish engineering design requirements and coordinate interfaces across multiple technical disciplines.
Strong technical writing skills, including experience developing design basis documents and system descriptions.
Demonstrated ability to lead technical reviews, resolve engineering issues, and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
Authorization to work in the United States without current or future employer-sponsored visa support.
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required, up to 30%.
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Experience with simple-cycle or combined-cycle gas turbine projects in an EPC, OEM, utility, or owner's engineering environment.
Experience with Thermoflow software, including GT PRO, GT MASTER, or PEACE, or similar plant performance tools.
Participation in or facilitation of hazard and operability studies (HAZOP) or process hazard analyses (PHA).
Experience with data center power generation or behind-the-meter power projects.
Experience coordinating plant design from concept development through commissioning.
During the first 90 days, the Lead Systems Engineer will be expected to:
Compile and review the current design basis for active projects, identifying missing information, technical conflicts, and integration risks.
Develop standardized system descriptions and interface documentation for different gas turbine configurations.
Establish consistent design basis and P&ID documentation control practices.
Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and controls engineering to resolve outstanding interface issues and align project deliverables.
Annual bonus target of 15–20%.
Sign-on bonus of $10,000–$30,000.
Competitive compensation and benefits based on experience.
