Job summary

Akina, Inc. is seeking a Lead Systems Engineer in Annapolis Junction, Maryland to manage stability, security, and scalability of data transformation workflows and a web-based UI.

You will lead a DevOps/SysAdmin team, oversee EC2, Kubernetes, and bare metal environments, and collaborate with 25+ software engineers to architect robust systems and automate operations. You will mentor staff, drive SSP compliance, implement observability, and advance deployment strategies using Ansible, Terraform,

Qualifications

• Proficient in system automation and scripting tools (Ansible, Terraform, Packer, Bash, Python).
• Knowledge of SSP compliance and processes (STE/STN).
• Experience with containerization (Podman, Kubernetes).
• AWS experience (EC2, S3, VPC, IAM).
• Metrics/observability with Kibana, Grafana, Prometheus.
• DB admin experience (Elasticsearch, MongoDB, Redis, or graph DBs).

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and direct the daily tasks of two system administrators.
• Collaborate with 25+ software engineers on system design and setup.
• Maintain system platforms and health of all servers and environments.
• Oversee system maintenance, security, and SSP accreditations.
• Ensure observability, monitoring, backups, and disaster recovery across dev/stage/prod.
• Keep system documentation up to date and drive continuous improvement.
