AT&T National Security seeks an experienced Lead System Engineer to design, implement, and maintain mission-critical systems for a U.S. Government customer in the Washington DC area.

The role emphasizes cross-platform expertise, automation, and security compliance across Linux, Windows, and database environments. You will collaborate with voice, network, and systems teams to deliver complex solutions, support after-hours maintenance, and travel within the Washington Metro Area as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5-10 years of experience designing, configuring, implementing, and maintaining enterprise-class system solutions.
• Experience with Linux and Windows enterprise environments, including patching and upgrades.
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP networks, network troubleshooting, and related protocols.
• Experience with database administration (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
• Knowledge of CIS/STIG security baselines and hardening practices.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a team of system engineers to deploy, configure, maintain and operate mission application systems in physical and virtual environments.
• Maintain and operate mission systems (RHEL, Rocky, Debian, Windows) with vendors for support.
• Manage system life-cycle phases from planning to migration and upgrades.
• Install and configure software patches and hardware components.
• Troubleshoot and document issues with root-cause analysis and resolutions.
• Monitor logs for performance, security, and anomalies.
• Develop scripts and automation to support routine tasks and reporting.
• Create and maintain backups and disaster recovery procedures.
• Maintain technical docs for installation, operation, and maintenance.
• Implement system security hardening per customer standards.
