Responsibilities & Expectations:

The Lead Switchgear & Upgrade Conversion Technician will drive operational efficiency within the conversion team, ensuring breaker conversions, switchgear modifications, and short-duration projects (8-32 hours) are completed on schedule. This role requires strong organizational skills, technical expertise, and leadership abilities. The Lead Technician will also foster department growth by optimizing processes and promoting continuous improvement.

  • Work on low & medium voltage circuit breakers, including GE, Westinghouse, Powell, ABB, ITE, etc.
  • Troubleshoot, retrofit, test, and assemble low, medium, and high voltage switchgear, breakers, contactors, and related apparatus.
Team Leadership & Supervision:

Manage and guide the Conversion Technicians, acting as the primary contact for job responsibilities and project execution.

Project Scheduling & Workflow Coordination:

Plan and assign daily tasks for breaker conversions and switchgear projects.

Technical Oversight & Execution:

Lead and participate in conversion and modification projects.

Training & Skill Development:

Provide hands-on training and mentorship to enhance team skills.

Performance Management:

Set performance expectations, monitor productivity and quality, and give feedback.

Qualifications and Competencies:
  • High School Diploma or GED; electro-mechanical training preferred.
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience with 480V to 25KV circuit breakers or 5+ years in mechanical environments.
  • Testing skills and understanding of electrical/mechanical testing procedures preferred.
  • Experience with OEM breakers and knowledge of power systems beneficial.
