Job summary

NC State University in Raleigh/Asheville, NC seeks an Extension Associate to coordinate the Sustainable Vegetable Apprenticeship program. The role leads curriculum development, recruitment, and project operations for a statewide registered apprenticeship on diversified vegetable farms.

The position requires a Master’s degree and strong organizational and leadership skills to manage logistics, advisory teams, and evaluation efforts within a 12-month apprenticeship model.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a relevant field with experience in apprenticeships, farming or experiential agricultural education.
• Excellent organizing, people, decision-making and project management skills.
• Ability to work remote and in-person settings.

Responsibilities

• Oversee program logistics, hiring, social media, and communications.
• Organize apprentice gatherings and register the apprenticeship with ApprenticeshipNC.
• Coordinate HR payments and registrations with NC State HR and Business.
• Coordinate the Project Advisory Team (PAT).
• Mentor apprentices and recruit host farms.
• Develop curriculum with ApprenticeshipNC and register apprenticeship curriculum.
• Assist in cross-program evaluation, long-term strategic planning and grant writing for future funding.
• Coordinate research efforts including recruiting, interviewing, and analyzing data collected about farm mentorship on organic and transitioning operations funded by TOPP.
