Job summary

Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers & Architects is seeking a skilled Survey Crew Chief in Kansas City, MO. You will lead field surveys, manage a crew, and ensure data accuracy using total stations, GPS, UAS, and scanners. Travel to diverse sites across the Midwest is required, with mentorship to junior staff.

You will coordinate with engineers and project managers, maintain equipment and records, and uphold safety and quality standards while delivering reliable survey data.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years as Survey Crew Chief.
• Proficiency with robotic total stations, GPS, and digital levels.
• Strong leadership and communication to guide field crews.
• Willingness to travel 65%+ of the time.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a survey crew in field surveys, upholding safety protocols and high-quality standards.
• Coordinate with engineers, surveyors and project managers to understand requirements and provide progress updates.
• Perform field surveys using total stations, GPS, terrestrial scanning, UAS, levels and other instruments to collect accurate data.
• Maintain and calibrate surveying equipment; coordinate repairs as needed.
• Maintain vehicle logs and safety audits; oversee work truck maintenance.
• Prepare detailed field notes, sketches, reports documenting activities and findings.
• Maintain accurate records of survey data, equipment inventory and project documentation.
• Implement quality control procedures and review survey data to meet requirements.
• Provide training and mentorship to junior surveyors.
• Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and industry standards governing surveying.
