Job summary

The Colorado Army National Guard seeks a Surface Maintenance Mechanic Leader to guide three or more mechanics and supervise work orders for heavy‑duty vehicles. You will diagnose, repair, and maintain complex systems, using engine analyzers and diagnostic tools, with emphasis on safety and readiness.

You will lead in remote locations, provide guidance to crew, and participate in inspections and readiness reporting to ensure mission capability across equipment and crews.

Qualifications

• Specialized experience in mechanical makeup and operation of complex interconnecting vehicle systems.
• Experience diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying complex systems on combat and tactical vehicles.
• Experience with state-of-the-art electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, and other major non‑mechanical systems.
• Experience with hydraulic lifting, loading, turning and positioning systems and controls.
• Ability to develop or improvise methods and modify parts to fit systems without technical guidelines.
• Ability to plan, organize, and lead a work group in vehicle repair functions.
• Experience performing administrative functions; ability to read and interpret technical publications.
• Experience providing guidance to others in related maintenance work.

Responsibilities

• Leads work-orders assignment to crew members and selects workers for jobs based on skills and abilities.
• Performs maintenance, troubleshooting, and major repairs on heavy‑duty equipment and vehicles.
• Conducts readiness and repair inspections for vehicles and equipment supported by the activity.
• Performs electrical repairs on complex electrical/electronic systems using specialized diagnostic tools.
• Assists in maintaining production reports and records and makes recommendations to supervision.
