Job summary

JMT is seeking an experienced SUE Party Chief to join the Underground Utilities, Land Surveying, and Mapping team in Asheville (Candler), NC. The role requires leadership of survey crews and strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities include planning, training, field data collection, and performing complex surveying calculations using AutoCAD. Some travel and night shifts may be required.

Qualifications

• Must pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening.
• Valid Driver’s License required.
• Able to pass Background Check.
• Ability to lead project assignments.
• Team attitude and mindset.
• Ability to read and interpret roadway/utility plans and drawings.
• Experience with utility designating equipment and CP/GP equipment procedures.
• Good written and verbal communications skills.
• Knowledge of Vacuum Excavation and Ground Penetrating Radar equipment/procedures.
• Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, lift up to 50 lbs.
• Able to travel as required.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum five years leading multiple crews on related projects.
• Land surveying experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Participates in pre-survey planning meetings with PMs, engineers, and contractors.
• Assigns and monitors work and evaluates field crew performance.
• Trains survey crew in methods, equipment use, and safety procedures.
• Completes daily report cards and field sketches.
• Provides time estimates for tasks.
• Performs surveying calculations using AutoCAD or similar software.
