Job summary

Brightsmith, a growing US-based EPC contractor, seeks an experienced Substation Engineer to own HV design from concept through energization and to work closely with construction teams on large-scale power projects.

You will cover 12.47kV to 500kV packages, with relocation support and remote opportunities in Boise/Caldwell, Idaho. Candidates should have 5+ years of HV design experience; a PE license is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 5+ years in substation engineering, ideally with utility/EPC exposure.
• Strong HV physical design experience for 115kV+ projects.
• Knowledge of IEEE, NESC, ANSI standards and P&C coordination.

Responsibilities

• Lead HV substation physical design, including general arrangements, equipment layouts, bus systems, grounding, and cable routing.
• Develop and review engineering calculations, equipment specifications, and construction-ready drawing packages.
• Work across Physical Design and Protection & Control (P&C), including schematics, wiring diagrams, relay panels, and control systems.
• Support generation interconnection projects, including geothermal, renewable energy, and other power generation facilities.
• Coordinate directly with civil, structural, construction, and procurement teams.
• Take ownership of assigned engineering packages from initial design through construction and energization.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers while taking on increasing technical responsibility.
