Job summary

National Grid in Syracuse, NY is seeking an Electrical Substation Lead Engineer to drive transmission and distribution substation projects. You will guide option development, author conceptual reports, and mentor engineers across disciplines for reliable energy delivery.

With a PE or the ability to obtain one within a year, you’ll lead major grid modernization initiatives, coordinate with the DTV program, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance across projects in the New York service

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET‑accredited program.
Ten years of relevant engineering experience without a PE license, or eight years with a PE license; exemptions possible for advanced degrees or certifications.
Knowledge of applicable industry standards, safety requirements, and electrical design codes related to power substations.

Responsibilities

Determine the substation scope of work and develop multiple project options within the OSD with technical feasibility and cost considerations.
Lead the authoring of conceptual engineering reports and coordinate with multidisciplinary engineers.
Provide technical leadership, mentor teams, and manage multiple projects to meet schedules and deliverables.
Maintain qualifications for substation access and ensure compliance with NERC/CIP requirements.
Represent OSE in the Design to Value program and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to drive capital efficiency initiatives.
