Job summary

The GEO Group participates in a wide range of correctional and community reentry services, seeking professionals with substance abuse counseling expertise. This role supports curriculum delivery, group and individual counseling, and material selection for effective treatment programs.

Candidates should have a background in social sciences and a strong commitment to evidence-based approaches, with capacity to collaborate across teams and adapt to evolving program needs.

Qualifications

• Minimum requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree in social sciences and two years of professional experience in chemical addictions counseling, or an Associate’s degree with four years of experience, or a High School diploma/GED with six years of experience.
• Certification (CADC) or license is required; LCAS or LCAS–A preferred.
• Experience in correctional settings preferred.
• Ability to interact professionally in individual and group counseling settings.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide relevant Substance Abuse information for class curriculum.
• Facilitate didactic educational presentations, group counseling, and individual counseling sessions.
• Select and recommend new instructional materials and programs for use in the substance abuse program.
• Maintain knowledge of new developments in the field of substance abuse.
• Maintain collegial relationships with other substance abuse professionals, programs, and associations.
• Complete required testing, assessment, and psychosocial history on incoming residents as required.
• Participate in related training for substance abuse.
