Job summary

Schuff Steel in Portland, OR is seeking a Senior Estimator to lead estimates on complex structural steel projects.

You will review blueprints, collaborate with fabrication and erector teams, and prepare detailed bids, including change orders for ongoing and new contracts.

The position requires extensive steel estimating experience, strong numerical skills, and proficiency with Excel and estimating software.

Qualifications

• 10+ years estimating and bidding on structural steel and heavy plate projects.
• BS Degree in Construction Management, Civil/Structural Engineering or Business may substitute for 3 years of required experience.
• 7–10 years of progressively responsible experience estimating structural steel construction projects.

Responsibilities

• Review blueprints, specifications, and other documentation to prepare estimates.
• Collaborate on how to build the job in fabrication and erection.
• Prepare detailed estimates for new projects and change orders with deadlines.
• Take off steel materials, estimate shop labor, field erection, and equipment costs for bids.
• Enter estimates in the in-house system with takeoffs and drawing numbers.
• Work with Sales and Pre-construction to understand project size, scope, and timelines.
• Follow company estimating guidelines and propose alternatives when needed.
