Barry-Wehmiller Design Group is seeking a Department Manager - Structural to lead a team delivering high‑quality structural design across manufacturing and industrial facilities. You will guide projects from concept to construction documentation with a focus on seismic and code compliance.
You will mentor engineers, shape department strategy, win work, and collaborate with nationwide teams to drive client value and project success.
Qualifications
- 12+ years of structural design experience in relevant sectors.
- 3+ years as structural engineering design manager (preferred).
- Expertise in seismic design and analysis.
- Proficiency in structural software and AutoCAD/REVIT.
- Strong knowledge of building codes and seismic requirements.
- Proven ability to lead teams and present designs to clients.
- Bachelor's in Civil/Structural Engineering; PE licensed; SE preferred.
- Willingness to travel for project requirements.
Responsibilities
- Act as Structural Engineer of Record and lead diverse projects.
- Lead engineers and designers through all project phases.
- Mentor the structural engineering team and manage performance.
- Oversee department hiring and workload planning.
- Collaborate with regional/national teams to support firm goals.
- Develop client relationships and pursue new opportunities.
- Identify value propositions aligned with client needs.
- Impact daily by applying expertise to client and project success.
