Description

WORK LOCATION: This position offers a hybrid/flexible work schedule with a mix of on-site work at the Sargent & Lundy office in Peachtree Corners and remote work from home.

Join Sargent & Lundy's Nuclear Power Group as a Structural Engineer – Project Lead, a unique opportunity for professional growth in the exciting field of carbon-free nuclear energy and related technologies. Support advanced technology projects, collaborate with industry professionals, address challenging problems, and contribute to the development of safe, reliable nuclear power for a greener future. This role involves leading a team of structural engineers, engaging with clients and multidisciplinary teams, and managing diverse projects. You will be involved in designing new nuclear facilities, including Small Modular Reactors, Advanced Reactors, and Medical Isotope Facilities, as well as upgrading existing nuclear plants domestically and internationally. The position enables you to:

  1. Apply your knowledge of materials, structural analysis, steel design, and reinforced concrete design in project execution.
  2. Work on various projects for different clients and interface with them as needed.
  3. Oversee the preparation and review of design calculations, specifications, reports, and support drawing development.
  4. Supervise and mentor team members to ensure quality engineering deliverables.
  5. Perform structural analysis and design of steel frames, connections, concrete members, and foundations using advanced computer tools.
  6. Travel to client and vendor sites for design reviews, construction coordination, and field verification.
Qualifications

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • BS in Civil Engineering with emphasis on Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • 10+ years of experience in design and analysis of industrial/heavy commercial or nuclear facility structures
  • Proficiency with structural analysis software such as STAAD, SAP2000, SAFE, STRUDL, or ANSYS
  • Knowledge of design codes and standards like ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI
  • Excellent communication skills
  • PE or SE license

Valued but Not Required:

  • MS in Civil Engineering
  • On-site construction support experience
