This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Structural Engineer for our Detroit, MI office. Provides high-level technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase due diligence, investigation, remediation, improvement, and/or construction of building and infrastructure projects in the public and private sector. Tasks include research, design, concept development, planning, and construction of load-bearing structures or structural elements, such as buildings, bridges, roadways, and mechanical structures. Substantiates reports and documentation to advise on material, installation, design, and construction specifications. Ensures responsibilities are delivered with quality standards that meet or exceed industry norms for safety, structural integrity, and functionality.

Your Impact
  1. Provide guidance with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from various sources for project development, design, and construction.
  2. Apply high-level structural and civil engineering techniques to identify improvements across project phases.
  3. Perform professional structural engineering work, including research and inspections of site conditions, resources, and structures to ensure compliance with rules and standards.
  4. Develop construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates; coordinate with stakeholders.
  5. Manage design, construction, rehabilitation, and remediation projects, ensuring durability and structural soundness.
  6. Incorporate advanced technologies and design standards for safety and functionality.
  7. Oversee and monitor teams of engineers, architects, and professionals to execute multiple projects, managing budgets, schedules, and compliance.
  8. Coordinate, review, and approve design plans, ensuring adherence to codes and regulations.
  9. Prepare data visualizations, reports, and presentations for complex data interpretation.
  10. Develop and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  11. Engage with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients professionally.
  12. Collaborate with other professionals on various development projects and business opportunities.
  13. Stay current with the latest structural engineering techniques.
  14. Adhere to company policies and ethical standards.
  15. Perform additional responsibilities as needed.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience in engineering and design.
  • Engineer license required.
  • Proficient with structural engineering principles, practices, and software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, etc.).
  • Knowledge of infrastructure planning, design, and construction management.
  • Understanding of sustainability practices.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Strong technical computation skills and ability to interpret plans and specifications.
  • Effective communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and lead teams with attention to quality.
  • Proficiency in technical writing and software tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking.
  • Experience in coordinating subcontractors and ensuring safety and efficiency.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to policies.
  • Flexibility for project-specific schedules and travel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER training.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
