Job summary

Fairmont Austin is seeking a motivated Steward to lead the Stewarding team, ensure sanitation of kitchen equipment, and support banqueting operations. You will manage dishwashing processes and maintain a clean, safe environment in a fast-paced luxury hotel.

Experience in Stewarding is preferred; strong teamwork and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this role at our iconic property in Austin, Texas.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a Stewarding department preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities.
• Highly responsible and reliable; able to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Consistently provide professional, friendly guest service while supporting colleagues.
• Lead and supervise the Stewarding team and ensure standards are followed.
• Maintain sanitation of kitchen equipment and assigned areas.
• Review banquet event orders and ensure setups and supplies are in place.
• Operate dish machine and manage dishware, silverware, and glassware.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment; perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Reporting to the Executive Steward, responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Responsibilities

• Consistently offer professional, friendly and proactive guest service while supporting fellow Colleagues
• Lead and supervise the Stewarding team in all aspects of the department and ensure standards are followed
• Supervise and maintain the sanitation of kitchen equipment and other areas assigned
• Review banquet event orders and ensure all set‑ups and supplies are in place
• Oversee and perform the following tasks:
  • Operate an industrial dish machine
  • Ensureall Colleagues have the dishes, silverware and glassesrequired
  • Sort, stack dishes, and load/unload dish machine
  • Sort, stack and store all cleaned items in an organized and safe manner
  • Ensure all broken and chipped items are removed from circulation, reportedand inventoried
  • Ensure floors are dry and clean at all times
  • Ensure all equipment is in working order and report any items in need of repair
  • Remove debris and trash to designated areas throughout shift
  • Clean and sanitize all pots, pans, and dishes by hand and using dish machines
• Follow department policies, procedures and service standards
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment, including all equipment and storage spaces
• Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

This position requires:

• Constant standing and walking throughout shift
• Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs

• Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps
