JOB SUMMARY:

Works under the supervision of the Instrument Processing Supervisor, assisting with daily operations in the Sterile Processing Department (SPD). Acts as a resource for SPD and other departments, providing excellent customer service and maintaining communication with the Sterile Processing Supervisor.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or GED with at least two years of Sterile Processing experience.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR REGISTRATION:

Certification as a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or equivalent is required. Certification in Sterile Processing Management is encouraged within three years of hire.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Expertise in all aspects of the sterile processing cycle, providing guidance and education to SPD staff.
  2. Assumes the responsibilities of the Sterile Processing Supervisor when assigned.
  3. Supports the Sterile Processing Supervisor in maintaining department production by leading SPD employees.
  4. Assists with case cart management and communicates issues to the Supervisor.
  5. Communicates effectively with the Sterile Processing Supervisor, SPD Liaisons, and OR Coordinators regarding instrument needs.
  6. Ensures equipment functionality and reports issues appropriately.
  7. Maintains departmental compliance logs in coordination with the Supervisor.
  8. Supports implementation and enforcement of departmental policies.
  9. Participates in special projects and interdepartmental committees as assigned.
  10. Follows safety policies to prevent the spread of bloodborne and airborne diseases.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 25 pounds, operate computer programs such as Excel, and order instruments via PeopleSoft.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Exposure to bodily fluids, tissue, chemical agents, steam, heat, and sharp instruments. Risks include bloodborne diseases, burns, cuts, and abrasions. Must wear PPE and follow safety protocols. Environment may be loud, stressful, and subject to interruptions and unpredictable situations.
