Job summary

Genentech is seeking a Principal Statistical Methodology Data Scientist in California to lead the development and institutionalization of innovative statistical methodologies across trials and portfolios.

You will partner with biostatisticians and project teams, drive go/no-go decisions with quantitative frameworks, and mentor junior staff while shaping the methodological strategy and external collaborations in line with regulatory expectations.

Qualifications

• PhD in Biostatistics, Statistics, Data Science, CS or related field.
• 6+ years designing and applying analytics to biomedical data in clinical trials.
• Deep expertise in statistical computing and advanced modeling.
• Recognized as a technical expert and thought partner within the organization.
• Experience mentoring others and contributing to internal standards, strategy, or capability development.
• Respect for cultural differences in the global workplace.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a methodological thought partner to study teams, providing expert guidance on complex design and analysis across programs.
• Lead the development and institutionalization of methodologies that improve decision-making at trial and portfolio levels (e.g., go/no-go criteria, simulation frameworks).
• Shape cross-functional understanding of innovative statistical methods through consultation, publications, and education efforts.
• Anticipate regulatory trends and integrate relevant methodologies into internal practices and external engagements.
• Act as a connector across teams, surface recurring challenges and co-create scalable solutions.
• Drive external collaboration through consortia, joint working groups, or regulatory-facing initiatives.
• Mentor junior staff and influence strategic direction of Statistical Methodology.
