Job summary

Slide Insurance is seeking a Staff Counsel to lead and mentor a team of attorneys in Florida, aligning litigation strategy with Claims leadership and guiding discovery, mediation, and trial readiness across the portfolio.

The candidate will hold a JD from an ABA-accredited law school, be active in the Florida Bar, and bring 8+ years of litigation experience including insurance litigation and 5+ years handling Florida first-party property claims. Strong leadership and communication are essential.

What You'll Do
  • Lead and mentor a team of Staff Counsel, providing guidance, coaching, and performance feedback
  • Partner with Claims leadership to align litigation strategy, case evaluation, and settlement practices
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex and high-exposure matters
  • Monitor litigation performance, exposure trends, and case progression across the team's portfolio
  • Conduct file reviews and provide strategic direction on discovery, mediation, and trial readiness
  • Coordinate with Trial Counsel to ensure matters are appropriately prepared for trial
  • Provide timely legal guidance and recommendations to Claims and business partners
  • Identify litigation risks and recommend strategies to support favorable outcomes
  • Promote compliance with court requirements, ethical obligations, and company litigation standards
What You Bring
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school and active Florida Bar membership in good standing
  • 8+ years of litigation experience, including significant insurance litigation and 5+ years handling Florida first-party property claims
  • 2+ years of leadership experience with a proven track record of mentoring and developing attorneys
  • Strong knowledge of Florida insurance law, civil procedure, evidence rules, and professional responsibility standards
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex litigation, evaluate risk, negotiate effectively, and guide legal strategy
  • Trial experience, including jury trial participation; second-chair trial experience preferred
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications
