Job description

Join to apply for the Lead/Staff Bioinformatics Scientist role at Natera.

Position is available as a hybrid position in San Carlos, Bay Area, California, or as a remote position within the US.

Natera is seeking a Lead/Staff Bioinformatics Scientist to join our Bioinformatics Research Team focused on Epigenomics in Oncology. Our mission is to change disease management worldwide by using information from a simple blood draw to detect disease early and inform treatment proactively. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in algorithm development, genomics, sequencing data processing, and/or applied machine learning. This individual will serve as a technical lead for various algorithm and machine learning model development projects.

Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and validate innovative algorithms and statistical methods to analyze large-scale data sets related to cancer detection.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and scientific excellence.
  • Collaborate with molecular biologists and clinical scientists to solve challenging problems.
  • Contribute to experimental design and ensure data integrity and quality control.
  • Act as a technical lead during various phases of research and product development.
  • Mentor and train other bioinformatics scientists.
Qualifications
  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field with a focus on cancer epi/genomics.
  • Minimum of 6-10 years of experience in bioinformatics, including algorithm development, data analysis, and machine learning.
  • Deep understanding of sequencing data.
  • Familiarity with public databases such as TCGA, COSMIC, or OncoKB.
  • Proficiency in Python and experience with Linux command-line tools and shell scripting.
  • Ability to visualize findings and communicate results effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • High scientific rigor and eagerness to learn about new computational methods and biology.
