Job summary

NBCUniversal Operations & Technology is seeking a Staff SRE, Playout Engineering to provide technical leadership for a team of Site Reliability Engineers supporting cloud-based master control playout for NBCUniversal live channels.

You will shape reliability strategy, define SLIs/SLOs, lead on-call incident response, and drive automation and monitoring (Grafana) across AWS-based playout services, collaborating with engineering, product, and operations.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience.
Eight years of hands-on engineering experience with broadcast playout environments.
Willingness to work on-call 24/7.
Experience administering Linux environments.
Experience with monitoring/logging tools (Splunk, Grafana).
Experience with streaming protocols and codecs (HLS, CMAF, HEVC, TS).
Experience with IP networking and cloud networks.
Experience with Docker & Kubernetes.
Excellent communication and ability to explain complex tech.
Expert with broadcast playout systems and public cloud (AWS).

Responsibilities

Lead SRE engineers on the playout engineering team.
Define reliability targets (SLIs/SLOs) for playout services.
Drive incident response and post-incident reviews.
Collaborate with other teams to improve reliability via capacity planning and tuning.
Develop runbooks and diagrams to support architecture reviews.
Lead automation initiatives to reduce toil and MTTR.
Provide L1/L2 on-call support for playout infrastructure.
Create monitoring dashboards and alerts in Grafana/ServiceNow.
