Job summary

Cambium Learning Group is seeking a hands-on Lead Database Administrator with strong SQL Server and cloud database expertise to join our Systems Engineering team. You will deploy, monitor, and optimize SQL Server instances across AWS (EC2 and RDS) and help migrate toward AWS-native services while ensuring high reliability for development and production workloads.

You will work with other Lead DBAs and developers to automate administrative tasks using SQL and PowerShell, participate in capacity

Qualifications

10+ years of MS SQL Server administration, incl. 7+ years on production systems
5+ years administering AWS database services (RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift)
Experience with EC2-hosted SQL Server and AWS-native options like Aurora and multi-AZ replicas
Ability to analyze performance issues using Extended Events, DMVs, or trace flags
Experience with large databases, partitioning, replication, and bulk data movement
Strong knowledge of maintenance, backups, storage, and disaster recovery

Responsibilities

Deploy, support, and upgrade SQL Server across AWS (EC2 and RDS) with cloud-native services growth
Troubleshoot complex SQL Server issues with System Engineers
Monitor database health with NOC support
Improve performance, reliability, and cost efficiency including cloud options
Collaborate with development teams on design, deployment, and troubleshooting
Develop SQL, stored procedures, and PowerShell scripts for automation
Serve as SQL Server expert across self-managed and AWS environments
Support AWS-native database transition with lead DBA
Maintain configurations and share knowledge
On-call evenings and weekends
