Job summary

Akers Dining Services at Michigan State University is seeking a Sous Chef to assist the Executive Chef in daily supervision and training of the campus dining production staff. You will help with ordering, planning, preparing and serving food to maintain quality across university facilities.

Responsibilities include inspecting equipment, introducing new cooking techniques and demonstrations to the cooking team.

Qualifications

• Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years in college or vocational school in Culinary Arts.
• One to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in food production and supervision.
• Supervisory responsibilities equivalent to those performed at the Sous Chef level in a full service food and beverage operation.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Executive Chef in daily supervision and training of the Dining Services production staff.
• Assist in ordering, planning, preparing and serving food to maintain quality food and service in University facilities.
• Inspect equipment for proper use and maintenance issues; demonstrate new cooking techniques to the staff.
