Job summary

Lalla Grill in Monterey, CA is seeking a hands-on Sous Chef to lead the kitchen alongside the Head Chef. You will manage prep, service execution, and staff during busy periods, ensuring top quality and consistent plates.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in professional kitchens, fluency in Spanish, and strong leadership with a calm, team-focused approach. This full-time role offers growth opportunities within Lalla Grill and sister concepts.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of professional kitchen experience.
• Prior sous chef/high-volume restaurant experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Formal culinary training is preferred.
• Must speak Spanish; English proficiency preferred.
• Excellent cooking, time management and leadership skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and multitask.
• Food Manager Certification to be completed after hiring.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Head Chef to lead kitchen operations.
• Direct and assist with food prep and service execution.
• Monitor food quality, consistency, and presentation.
• Learn and work across kitchen stations as needed.
• Ensure food safety and cleanliness standards are consistently followed.
• Lead and mentor kitchen staff during service.
• Coordinate with managers for large parties, takeout, and catering.
• Assist with ordering from Sysco and other vendors.
