Job summary

Dematic is seeking a Solution Design Project Engineer to oversee the engineering and estimation of large, complex material handling solutions on the Key Accounts team. You will lead design efforts, develop system concepts, and coordinate across engineering, sales, procurement, and operations to deliver high-quality, cost-effective automation solutions.

You will create solution definitions, prepare cost estimates, and guide 3D modelling, drawings, and proposal documentation, ensuring alignment

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5+ years of experience in material handling, warehouse automation, controls engineering, or complex systems engineering.
• Background in Mechatronics Engineering, Systems Engineering, Controls Engineering, Application Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
• Strong leadership abilities with the capacity to coordinate and guide cross-functional teams.
• Experience interpreting customer requirements, developing technical solutions, and leading concept development efforts.
• Experience with PLC control systems and controls architecture development.
• Practical understanding of WMS/WCS software, system integration, and machine-to-host interfaces.
• Experience with conveyor and sortation technologies, including case conveyor, linear sortation, crossbelt sortation, and pallet conveyor systems.
• Preferred experience with bulk handling, ASRS/unit load systems, monorail systems, AutoStore, simulation tools, and structural integration.
• Strong problem-solving, risk assessment, cost evaluation, and value-engineering capabilities.
• Proficient in both written and verbal communication, capable of crafting operational narratives and technical documentation.
• Up to 10% travel. Additional travel may be required during the first 6–12 months for training and project support.

Responsibilities

• Oversee engineering efforts and estimation for large and complex MHE solutions.
• Define solution requirements and identify relevant controls architectures.
• Produce operational outlines and support customer layout reviews.
• Develop or direct the development of the solution build and cost estimates.
• Lead, schedule, plan and manage all technical activities with accuracy and quality.
• Own engineering activities and deliverables through quotation and build phases.
• Provide accountability for technical, cost, and contractual aspects of projects.
