Job summary

Lilly in Indianapolis, IN, seeks a Solid-State Scientist to join the SMDD team. You will apply solid-state principles to design and evaluate drug substances and products across pre-clinical to commercialization, focusing on solid-form screening and process crystallization for diverse modalities.

The role requires PhD or relevant MS with 5+ years’ experience and expertise with XRPD/DSC/TGA/DVS/HPLC, plus experience in scale-up crystallization and cross-functional teamwork.

Qualifications

• PhD degree in a physical science (e.g. chemistry), pharmaceutics, or related discipline or Masters degree with 5+ years’ experience
• Understanding of pharmaceutical solid-state science and its impact on drug product performance and manufacturing
• Familiarity with XRPD, DSC, TGA, DVS, HPLC and crystallization equipment (Easymax, Crystal 16)
• Demonstrated experience with solid form screening including crystallization, salt, and/or cocrystal screening
• Experience with scale-up crystallization of small molecules or peptides

Responsibilities

• Solid-form screening and characterization of novel small molecules, peptides, oligonucleotides and intermediates.
• Scale up crystallization of small molecules and peptide fragments.
• Partner with development groups solving complex technical problems related to solid form assessment and particle properties
• Leverage learning agility and problem-solving skills in applying solid-state principles to the delivery of new therapeutic modalities.
• Engage in development of workflows for solid-state integration with automated data analysis.
• Documentation of scientific results.
• Maintain laboratory area and instrumentation related to solid state and process crystallization.
• Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
