Job summary

Qualifications

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Lead Software System Safety Engineer (EC3) to join our engineering team in Dahlgren, VA. In this role, you will lead critical software safety analyses, risk assessments, and testing to ensure complex system architectures and weapon systems meet stringent safety standards. You will serve as a technical authority, defending safety conclusions before key review panels and boards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and execution of software safety analyses, safety testing, and comprehensive risk assessments.
• Identify, document, and track resolutions for software safety anomalies from initial identification through mitigation.
• Determine software Level of Rigor (LOR) tasks based on software criticality indices, mapping tasks, and defining software contributions to overall system risk.
• Conduct thorough peer review analyses of source code written in languages such as C++ and C#.
• Develop, coordinate, and execute technical data packages, System Requirement Hazard Analyses (SRHA), and Safety Assessment Reports (SAR).
• Prepare and deliver high-level technical presentations to support the Weapon System Explosives Safety Review Board (WSESRB) and the Software Systems Safety Technical Review Panel (SSSTRP).
• Defend complex software safety engineering conclusions and hazard analyses before customer review boards and technical panels.

Required Qualifications

Education & Professional Certifications:

• Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline.

General Experience:

• At least seven (7) years of professional experience in software engineering applied to program development, modeling, and simulation.

Specialized Experience:

• At least two (2) years of focused experience as a System Safety Engineer performing software safety analysis, software safety testing, risk assessment, and tracking software safety anomalies.
• Demonstrated experience conducting peer reviews of code in C++ or C#.
• Proven track record coordinating and delivering technical data packages, Safety Assessment Reports (SAR), and System Requirement Hazard Analyses.
• Direct experience developing and presenting material to the Weapon System Explosives Safety Review Board (WSESRB) and the Software Systems Safety Technical Review Panel (SSSTRP).
• Demonstrated ability to identify software Level of Rigor (LOR) tasks for a given software criticality index and map software contributions to overall risk.
• Proven ability to authoritatively defend engineering conclusions in front of software safety panels.
